Committee Activity

The Committees of the Club report here some of what they are achieving and setting out to do:-

Youth Opportunities Committee

Mock Interviews

Mock Interviews were conducted in the Autumn of 2009 and were well received by sixth formers from Exmouth Community College.   The students appreciate the opportunity to test their skills at interview and to build experience.

Young Chef

The Young Chef Competition was held at the Exmouth Community College.   The standard of cooking was very high.  Our winner went through to the District Competition and won through to the Regional competition.

Youth Speaks

Local area and district competitions now completed.   Our senior team has won through to Regional Finals.

International Committee

Zimbabwe Project

On Monday 10th August the Club voted through a contribution of £760.00 towards the above project. This, along with £3,000 from the Totnes RC and £500.00 from Ashburton RC should, after matching grants from the Great Rotary Club in the sky yield approximately $24,500 US.

This will be sufficient to help 5 villages install Elephant Pumps and Wells (see Pump Aid via Google and attached article).

It will also enable the cultivation of smallholding type plots. Included in the planting will be Moringa Olefeira trees which provide protein and vitamin C. Look them up on Google via Tree Africa, a subsidiary of Environment Africa.

We should eventually be able to identify the exact villages we have helped.

A great event at Budleigh Public Hall Gardners Question Time helped raise over £1,000 for our charity projects.

Membership Services Committee

Emblem sales are celebrating their 25th year and have raised over £50,000.  The Spiral Wishing Wells project hopes to build on initial success after excellent promotion at District, National and International Conventions.

The Kite Festival will be from 5th and 6th  of June 2011.

The Walk and Ride will be on 8th May 2011.

We hope to raise additional funds from our own four Spiral Wells, from the seafront wishing well and by developing our eBay sales.

Our committee also supports the sports and entertainment officer, speakers secretary, club news editor and IT Committee.   It works with other officers namely house, attendance, welfare, protection, health and safety.
